Tai Kwun (Former Central Police Station Compound)

Tai Kwun is located on Hollywood Road in Central, Hong Kong, and the compound includes three historical sites: the Old Central Police Station, the Former Central Magistracy, and Victoria Prison. The Central Police Station, built in 1864, is a classical three-story building. On December 20, 2005, the police force held a farewell ceremony and officially handed over the Central Police Station. The site is adjacent to the Former Central Magistracy and Victoria Prison, which also have a long history, and is planned to be developed into a historical and cultural tourism area.

In April 2011, the Hong Kong Jockey Club announced that archaeological surveys of the area had been completed, and some artifacts believed to be from the late Qing Dynasty to the early 20th century were discovered, including containers, ceramic pipes, copper coins, porcelain bowl fragments, suspected tunnel structures, and foundation remains. Today, Tai Kwun is a heritage and art museum dedicated to bringing rich and exciting historical and artistic experiences to Hong Kong.

Open all year round from 8:00 to 23:00. A must-see tip is to take the Mid-Levels Escalator uphill, and when you see the Old Central Police Station building, you will pass over a pedestrian bridge.
