Taibaiyan is located on the north side of the main urban area of Wanzhou. It is about 400 meters high, about 3 kilometers long, and covers an area of 40 hectares. Taibaiyan benefits from the ‘White Rock Immortal Trace’ among the eight scenic spots of Wanzhou and has an advantage in natural scenery. The inscriptions on the rock from ancient and modern times are widely known. Since the Tang and Song dynasties, it has been known as a scenic spot in Wanzhou.
On the half-mountain stone wall of Taibaiyan, there are three large characters of ‘Guande Pavilion’ in stone carvings of the Song Dynasty. During the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, Cao Xuequan, the inspector of Sichuan Province, came to Wanzhou and pointed out that the Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai had studied at Xishan Mountain, so he built the ‘Taibai Shrine’. There are more than 40 existing cliff carvings in Taibaiyan. The three large characters of ‘Taibaiyan’ in the cliff carvings during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty are clearly visible and have been listed as a famous scenic spot in China by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage. Inside the scenic area, there is the Anti-British Martyrs Memorial Hall of the ‘September 5th Wanxian Massacre’ and the monument of the September 5th Massacre. Taibaiyan has excellent scenery. The beauty of vegetation and the charm of forests and springs are unrivaled. Climbing to the top of the mountain, one can not only express nostalgic feelings and lofty aspirations, but also overlook the panoramic view of Wanzhou and enjoy the beauty of the rivers and mountains. It is a place often visited by local residents for leisure and by foreign tourists for sightseeing. Since it is called ‘Taibai’, naturally it cannot be separated from Li Bai. Legend has it that this is the place where Li Bai once studied. A place that gave birth to such a poetic immortal is naturally elegant and free from worldly dust.
