The Taizhou Prefecture Confucian Temple, also known as the ‘Confucius Temple’, is located at the west end of Hui Pu Road in Linhai City, Zhejiang Province. Originally constructed in the second year of the Baoyuan period of the Northern Song Dynasty (1039), it served as the Taizhou State School. By the Ming and Qing dynasties, the scale of Taizhou Confucian Temple had expanded, becoming one of the larger Confucian temples of its time and presenting a new layout of temple on the right and school on the left, pioneering a new system of ‘temple-school integration’ in Taizhou. For a period, the Taizhou Prefecture Confucian Temple was obscured by the dust of history. The temple has shown signs of wear, with only the upturned eaves indicating its once prominent status. In 2005, the Taizhou Prefecture Confucian Temple was renovated and reopened. The reconstructed temple includes the Dacheng Gate, the Hall of Eminent Officials, the Hall of Local Worthies, the Eastern and Western Side Halls, the Apricot Altar, the Terrace, the Dacheng Hall, the Mingle Hall, and the Qisheng Hall, covering an area of over 5,000 square meters. It is open all year round and accessible 24 hours a day.
