Are you familiar with the Chinese version of ‘Barbie’? Would you like to learn about the history of Tang Ren Fang, the Beijing silk dolls that have served as significant national gifts on multiple occasions? Let us visit the ‘Tang Ren Fang Doll Art Museum’ in Zhangjiawan, Tongzhou, Beijing, and explore the ‘Tang dolls’ that have been charming for a thousand years with silk as their skin and cloth as their attire.

Upon entering the museum, even through the glass, one can still sense the delicate softness and plump elegance of the doll art pieces. There are fairies playing musical instruments and dancing in the sky; there are the Eight Immortals engaged in lofty discussions; there is Guan Yu standing with his sword; and there are the graceful and melodious classical beauties, all vividly and realistically crafted.

The China Tang Ren Fang Doll Art Museum is located in the ancient town of Zhangjiawan, Tongzhou, by the Grand Canal, adjacent to the Beijing Universal Studios theme park, covering an area of 60 acres. The museum houses hundreds of traditional Beijing silk dolls, all collected by Master Tang Yan in the early 1990s, representing the masterworks of the industry. Each piece holds a touching story behind it, and currently, 70% to 80% of the world’s silk doll art pieces are collected within the museum.

Opening hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 09:30-16:30 all year round; closed on Mondays and Sundays; and open on New Year’s Day, Spring Festival, Qingming Festival, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Day from 09:30-16:30.
