Tangwang Cave is located on Chrysanthemum Island in Xingcheng City, with a length of over 2000 meters. The distance from the entrance to the first exit is 320 meters. The cave is approximately two meters high, and it becomes lower as one ventures further inside. The walls are constructed with irregularly shaped stones, but the ceiling and floor are meticulously built with natural stone slabs. On both sides of the cave walls, there are slabs of stone set at intervals of three meters in a staggered pattern, which were used for placing lamp stands or candles.

According to archaeological experts, stone stools and iron bowls have been discovered in certain parts of the cave in the past. There are two main legends regarding the purpose of constructing this cave. First, it was used by monks to store scriptures. Second, it was used by people to escape from chaos and warfare. However, historical records do not provide detailed information about when this cave was built, who built it, or its specific purpose.

There are two beautiful legends about the name of this cave: it is called ‘Tangwang Cave’ because Prince Dan of Yan once took refuge here, and it is also known as ‘Tangwang Cave’ because Emperor Li Shimin of Tang once took shelter here during a rainstorm.
