Tanzhang Gorge is the seventh national scenic area in Chongqing. It is located in Wanzhou, covering an area of 67 square kilometers. The canyon, ground fissure, secluded pool and karst cave in the scenic area are quite distinctive. In 2012, it was rated as a national scenic area. The main gorge of Tanzhang Gorge is divided into five gorges, namely General Gorge, Heavenly King Gorge, Taoyuan Gorge, Ground Fissure Gorge and Conch Gorge. The gorge is deep and the water is secluded. More than twenty deep pools are inlaid in the gorge like pearls. The narrowest part is only 1.5 meters. On both sides are cliffs several hundred meters high. Tanzhang Gorge Scenic Area is located in the southeast of Wanzhou District, Chongqing City. It is a canyon-type scenic area composed of limestone. The scenic area mainly integrates canyon, ground fissure, secluded pool, karst cave and forest. In 2002, it was named a municipal-level scenic area by the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government. It is a tourist resort for leisure, vacation, scientific research and exploration in the Three Gorges Reservoir area. Among them, the forest area is 2140 hectares, and the forest coverage rate reaches 64.7%. It is integrated with Wang’erbao, a municipal-level nature reserve with rare animals and plants and the “Insect Kingdom” in the Three Gorges Reservoir area. The water potential in the gorge changes with the seasons. In some sections of the gorge, boating can be enjoyed for entertainment. The water quality in the gorge is clear and pollution-free. Whenever the gorge water hits the mountain wall, it turns into a pool. There are 48 pools in the gorge. Each pool is a natural swimming pool. Open all year round. Open from 09:00 to 17:00.
