On January 13, 1912, Tao Chengzhang was assassinated at Guangji Hospital in Shanghai. On January 22, the martyr’s coffin was moved from Shaoxing Guild Hall in Shanghai and buried in front of Fenglin Temple by Xiling Bridge in Hangzhou. On both sides of Tao’s tomb are the attached burial tombs of Yang Zheshe and Shen Youzhi.

The tomb is constructed with bluestone slabs and is in a rectangular shape. There is an offering table in front. The inscription is engraved on the stone body in front of the tomb, simple and dignified.

It was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution. In September 1981, it was moved to the current location. When buried, another bone urn was replaced. Inside is placed an inkstone with the words: ‘Tao Chengzhang’s Tomb. Moved from Jilong Mountain to Nantianzhu in September 1981.’
