Tao Guang Temple is an influential ancient temple from the Tang Dynasty located in the Lingyin Scenic Area, adjacent to Yongfu Zen Temple. It was built by the renowned poet-monk Tao Guang from Sichuan during the Tang Dynasty, hence the name. The temple is historically known for Buddhist worship, mountain, and sea viewing, and it was a frequent visit for Bai Juyi, the former governor of Hangzhou, who would often come to the temple to brew tea and compose poetry.

The temple’s entrance is quite distinctive, featuring white walls and grey arches, embodying the charm of Jiangnan architecture. Upon entering, one encounters the Mahavira Hall, Mani Hall, Golden Lotus Pond, a mountain spring, Sea View Tower, and Tao Guang Ancestor Hall, with a statue of Lu Dongbin behind the tower, symbolizing the unique blend of Buddhism and Taoism. Occasionally, people visit the temple to burn incense, creating a tranquil and harmonious atmosphere with the ancient charm of Zen.
