Xishan, also known as Dongting Xishan or Jintown, is the largest island in Lake Taihu. This island offers ethereal views of Lake Taihu and the Piao Miao Peak, which stands as the foremost among the seventy-two peaks surrounding the lake. Ancient villages and karst caves are among its many distinctive tourist attractions.
The Lake Taihu Bridge divides into three sections, connecting the mainland, Changsha Island, Yeshan Island, and Xishan Island from north to south. This bridge resembles a necklace and forms a scenic spot in itself. The main area for tourists to visit is Xishan Island, centered around a mountain with a circular tourist route. It is recommended to allocate at least two days for the visit.
On the first day, explore the Linwu Cave and surrounding attractions on the east route, and stay overnight at the north of Shigong Mountain or in the Mingyuewan Ancient Village. On the second day, visit the Piao Miao Peak or other attractions on the west route.
Accommodation options in Xishan are not limited to Shigong Mountain and Mingyuewan Ancient Village. The island has well-developed lodging facilities, primarily focused on agritourism, but also including luxurious resorts. Local specialty restaurants are abundant, with Shigong Mountain and Mingyuewan Ancient Village being the hubs for lakeside eateries.
A must-try is the special dish ‘Three Whites of Lake Taihu’—whitefish, whitebait, and white shrimp—as well as Lake Taihu’s hairy crabs, which are highly praised when in season during the autumn. The park is open throughout the year. On weekdays, from Monday to Friday, it operates from 08:30 AM to 04:00 PM. During weekends, from Saturday to Sunday, the park’s opening hours extend to 04:30 PM.
