The Taojiang Thirteen Islets Scenic Area integrates resources such as pastoral scenery on the islets, volcanic relics, and is a key component of the Linhai National Geopark and Taozhu Provincial Scenic Area. It consists of ten sub-areas including Taojiang Charm, Peacock Pecking Green, Volcanic Relics, Coiling Dragon by the Sea, General’s Legacy, Green Guest’s Feast, Great Wall Peak Forest, Stone Pillar Ascending to Heaven, Taojiang Painting Islets, and Orange Ridge Fragrance.
Among them, the Volcanic Relics area showcases the beautiful landscapes shaped by volcanic movements 80 million years ago, including rhyolite plateaus, peak walls, peak forests, caves, and natural bridges. The Taojiang River cuts and encloses the fields into thirteen islets of varying sizes and shapes, covering an area of more than acres. The islets are scattered like stars, forming a typical wetland landscape. Originally, a large number of peach trees were planted on the islets, hence the name Taozhu. With its clear waters, green fields, red mountains, and dark shadows, the scenery on the islets changes with the seasons and the crops, earning the reputation of ‘China’s Most Beautiful Pastoral Scenery’. The islets feature both land and water, offering a panoramic view from the Stone Pillar Peak. The volcanic peaks gather, the mountains undulate, and the rivers below are like silk ribbons, with fields of green, creating a natural picture. Taojiang Thirteen Islets: Why are they called Taojiang Thirteen Islets? Originally, many peach trees were planted on the islets, so it naturally became known as Taozhu. ‘River’ refers to a river, and ‘islet’ means ‘land in the water’, dividing the fields into various sizes and shapes of islets, with the largest being over 80 acres and the smallest just half an acre, hence the name Taojiang Thirteen Islets. Why is there a statue at the entrance of the Thirteen Islets? This is the Southern Song Dynasty poet Wen Tianxiang, who, when in distress, passed through Taozhu by sea and was inspired by the beautiful mountains and waters to leave behind a poem: ‘A fairyland of sea and mountains, where I happen to dwell in solitude’ and ‘A myriad of scenes in a picture, a thousand rocks in a jade realm’. Therefore, there is a statue of him here. The entire area is open from 1/1 to 12/31, 08:00-17:00. Additional information on preferential policies: 1.
