The area is epitomized by the historical phrase “Thirteen Miles of Taoyang, Smoke and Fire of One Hundred Thousand Households,” and is revered as the “Pearl of the Porcelain Kingdom.” It was the exclusive site for crafting royal porcelain during the Ming and Qing dynasties. The porcelain shards buried beneath the ground share a lineage with those in the Forbidden City collection, embodying the ‘code’ that has made Jingdezhen renowned worldwide.

This scenic area is hailed as the ‘living fossil’ of the ancient town, offering an authentic preservation of the historical features of old Jingdezhen. This includes Song and Yuan ancient roads, Ming and Qing buildings, kiln brick alleys, guild academies, and industrial heritage. It systematically showcases a rich tapestry of history: 2000 years of pottery, 1000 years of official kiln history, 600 years of imperial kiln history, as well as the history of the Communist Party and the People’s Republic of China in Jingdezhen.

As a unique symbol and cultural business card of the city, the Taoyangli Imperial Kiln Scenic Area has been included in the World Cultural Heritage Tentative List, a testament to its enduring significance and cultural value. The ancient porcelain capital is now rejuvenated with a ‘younger look’, emerging as a vibrant ceramic cultural tourism destination. This area boasts a variety of businesses and attractions, including South Goods Street, Red Shop Street, music bars, old tea houses, old taverns, Zhongde Hall, blacksmith shops, migratory bird residences, hotels and homestays, jade spaces, artistic workshops, Central Conservatory of Music teaching bases, and traditional drama performances.
