Taping Temple is located in Jizhen Township, Taping Village, Guzang Mountain Ping, Beibei District, Chongqing City. It was originally constructed in the 16th year of the Shaoxing era during the Song Dynasty (1146 AD), taking 22 years to complete, and was finally finished in 1168 AD, making it over 840 years old. Originally named Xiaokunlun Guzang Temple, it was renamed Taping Temple during the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty due to the construction of a stone archway in front of the temple hall. In 1986, it was listed as a provincial cultural protection unit in Sichuan Province.
The temple covers an area of 500 square meters and features a complete quadrangle architecture, integrating a temple, pagoda, archway, and stele, representing a rare architectural complex in China’s Central Plains since the Tang Dynasty centered around a pagoda. Inside the temple, there is a stone pagoda built in 1167 AD, an archway built in 1612 AD, and Qing Dynasty structures such as the Mahavira Hall, Sutra Pavilion, side rooms, iron pagodas, and Yunleng Stele (a type of stupa). The temple is open to visitors all year round from 08:00 to 11:30 and 13:00 to 16:30.Taping Temple
