Tashan Mountain stands at an elevation of 718.9 meters and is the main peak of Moganshan. This mountain is the highest peak in the Moganshan range, making it an ideal spot for sunrise viewing. There was once an ancient tower on the mountain, constructed in the second year of the Tianfu era of the Five Dynasties’ Jin Dynasty (AD 937), which is believed to have collapsed during the mid-Ming Dynasty. The name Tashan Mountain originates from this tower. Upon reaching the summit of Tashan, one can see the surrounding peaks bowing and curving, like grandchildren gathered around their grandparents’ feet, nestled at its base. To the north, Taihu Lake appears as an oval-shaped mirror, with its islands blurred within the reflection. Looking eastward, the Grand Canal stretches like a ribbon, while to the west, the towering Tianmu Mountains stand tall. Gazing southeast with great effort, the Qiantang River seems to be visible as a faint line, but with the water and sky blending into one, it is hard to discern. The area around Tashan is often shrouded in mist. Sometimes the fog drifts around the mountain’s waist, making the summit appear like an island amidst surging waves. The nearby mountains are clear, while the distant ones are as light as clouds, making it difficult to distinguish between cloud and mountain. Sometimes the wind clears the clouds, and the entire mountain, covered with bamboo, pine, and fir trees, dances gracefully. The nearby mountains are engulfed in a sea of green waves, making it hard to discern the boundaries between one mountain and another. The mountain is open all year round, with access available at all times, though specific business hours may vary depending on the day’s conditions.
