Tatou Di Ancient Village is located 1 kilometer east of Yayang Town in Taishun, and is a place where the Ji family has gathered. It was first established during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty. The historically significant residential architecture in Tatou Di is the Xiacuo. Built during the Kangxi period, Xiacuo exhibits a strong architectural style reminiscent of the Ming Dynasty. The features include: firstly, the relatively low and small residential framework; secondly, the use of wooden column bases with horizontal patterns to prevent water absorption. However, being made of wood, these bases are prone to water absorption and inevitable decay over time. As a result, wooden bases were replaced with stone bases. In Xiacuo, many eave columns have been replaced with stone bases. Thirdly, the small wood carvings are simple and unadorned, especially in the column head brackets, where Xiacuo’s brackets are devoid of any carvings, appearing so simple and plain. The village is open all year round and accessible 24 hours a day.
