Tianning Temple is located on Tianning Temple Front Street, to the west of Beibinhe Road, on the west bank of the moat river, outside Guang’an Gate in Xicheng District, Beijing.

The temple houses the tallest multi-eave brick pagoda in Beijing, which was built during the Liao Dynasty.

Tianning Temple was originally established during the reign of Emperor Xiaowen of Northern Wei and was known as ‘Guanglin Temple’, making it one of the oldest temples in Beijing.

The temple was renamed ‘Tianning Temple’ during its reconstruction in the Ming Dynasty’s Zhengtong period.

It was also renovated during the Zhengde and Jiajing periods of the Ming Dynasty and the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty.

The temple is open to visitors all year round from 9:00 to 16:00.
