The Ancient Summer Retreat Cave is located on Gulangyu Island. It is a cave with unique characteristics. The granite boulders that seem to fall from the sky are supported by the stone walls on both sides, giving people a feeling of overwhelming pressure, which is extremely perilous. The four characters “Ancient Summer Retreat Cave” on it were inscribed by Shi Shijie, a literati in the late Qing Dynasty.
The stone cave is bright, dry, well-ventilated and refreshing. There is a poem engraved behind the “Ancient Summer Retreat Cave”: “Sunlight Rock, with countless rocks. The ladder along the sea forms a jade barrier. Above there is the vast sky wind, and below there is the boundless sea.” This poem was written by Jiang Dingwen. After “resolving” the “Fujian Incident” launched by the 19th Route Army, he was extremely proud and in a very good mood, so he wrote this rather literary inscription.Opening hours: Open 24 hours a day throughout the year
