China Gate is a rare Chinese element within the Window of the World. It is one of the three treasures of Beijing’s Lama Temple. Originally, the Lama Temple was the residence of the Fourth Prince of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, Prince Yong, who later became Emperor Yongzheng. Emperor Qianlong was also born here. The treasure gate features four columns and nine peaks, adorned with a dazzling gold and jade, with patterns primarily consisting of auspicious dragons and phoenixes, reflecting the grandeur of the Kangxi and Qianlong golden age. The four characters ‘Huan Hai Zun Qin’ in the center are written by Emperor Qianlong himself. It is open all year round and accessible 24 hours a day.
