The Eighteen Steps Well is the first of the five stone wells on Lao Jie, and it is said that Emperor Qianlong once stopped by Xuancheng during his southern tour and drank water here. Below the well, two stone lions guard an ancient square well made of bluestone. The well water is clear and sweet, never drying up all year round, flowing from the pool to the small river outside the street, and then merging into the Shuiyuan River.
