Originally known as ‘Maozhu Wei’, ‘Yangtze River’s First Beach’ was enclosed to form land in 2010. In accordance with the water affairs and flood control planning of the Shanghai Municipal Water Authority, this location was designed to construct a flood embankment capable of withstanding a 200-year flood event. In 2013, Shanghai Changxing Island Development and Construction Co., Ltd. invested 320 million yuan to build an ecological green space, 1800 meters long and 50-70 meters wide, combining flood control requirements.

This provided Shanghai citizens with a recreational area to enjoy close-up views of the river scenery. Changxing Island, located at the mouth of the Yangtze River and adjacent to the East China Sea, is thus called ‘Yangtze River’s First Beach’. The entire site is open all year round, 24 hours a day, with specific business status subject to the day’s opening conditions.
