Located in the central-eastern part of the mountaintop park, there stands a granite archway with the inscription ‘The First Peak of the South Sky’ on the beam. The elevation of the mountain where the archway is situated is approximately 200 meters, not the highest peak of Baiyun Mountain. The ‘First Peak of the South Sky’ is one of the scenic spots of Baiyun Mountain. The archway, well-preserved among the ancient structures of Baiyun Mountain, was originally constructed by Tao Ding, a transport commissioner during the Song Dynasty, and served as a directional sign for reaching the Moxing Ridge, which was a necessary path in the past. It is open all year round and accessible all day.
