The First Spring of Lingnan

Lingnan’s First Spring, also known as Jipa Well, is referred to as Xihua Well by the local villagers. This spring gushes out from the ground. According to the ‘Guangzhou City Records’: ‘There are often shrimps in the well that appear golden, floating on the stones, and from time to time, colorful pheasants fly to drink and peck, hence the name Jipa Well.’ During construction in the Baiyun Mountain area, the once-covered spring eye was rediscovered.

In 2002, during Guangzhou’s cultural relics survey, this spring eye was confirmed to be the original Lingnan First Spring and was established as a cultural heritage protection unit. The well is completely hidden within a residential area. Upon reaching the intersection of Zhengmin Road and Fei’e West, there is a sign for the Nanquanxuan restaurant. Entering inside, the well is located within the parking lot, and by the mountainside, there is a corner enclosed by iron railings, with a stone tablet silently recording the reputation of Guangzhou’s First Spring.

Open all year round from 11:00-14:00 and 17:00-21:00.
