Originally named Lingshun Temple, this ancient temple is situated atop Beigao Peak in Hangzhou. Constructed during the Eastern Jin Dynasty, it stands as one of the ‘Five Spirits’—Lingjiu, Lingyin, Lingfeng, Lingshun, and Lingshan—established by Huili, a distinguished monk from India, in Hangzhou. With a rich history spanning over 1600 years, the temple gained the moniker ‘Temple of Wealth’ in the early Northern Song Dynasty when it began to house the ‘Five Manifestation Gods of Wealth’.
Due to its lofty position as the highest peak in Hangzhou, the Temple of Wealth has been a favored destination for emperors and literati throughout the ages. Notably, Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty, as well as Emperors Kangxi and Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, have all left their inscriptions within its premises. Folklore attributes great efficacy to the temple, drawing many who seek blessings and fortune.
On a clear day, from the platform east of Lingshun Temple on Beigao Peak, one can enjoy a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains, offering an expansive field of vision. The Temple of Wealth is open to visitors all year round, with operating hours from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
