Ningyuan Building, located at No. 70, Quanzhou Road, was once the former residence of Lu Jiaxi.
This three-story Western-style building, named Ningyuan Building, which means ‘attain one’s goal by leading a quiet life’. It is the former residence of Professor Lu Jiaxi, a well-known Chinese scientist and the former president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Lu Jiaxi lived in Ningyuan Building on Gulangyu Island until 1946 when he moved into the faculty dormitory of Xiamen University.

Perhaps influenced by the spiritual aura of ‘attaining one’s goal by leading a quiet life’ on Gulangyu Island, he achieved a brilliant scientific research career.
