The ‘Huoyan Society’ was one of the earlier modern literary groups in the Chaoshan area. After its establishment in 1923, it set up the ‘Huoyan Weekly’ in the ‘Dalingdong Daily’ for anti-imperialist and anti-feudal propaganda. The ‘Huoyan Society’ gathered several key Chaozhou members of the ‘Left-wing League’, contributing to the promotion of new thoughts, new culture, and new literature in the Chaoshan region.
The exhibition hall is themed around the red culture of the Left-wing League, with the Huoyan Literary Society and the ‘Huoyan Weekly’ as the main thread, showcasing the active participation of Chaoshan young literary writers in the new cultural movement and the growth process of the Left-wing martyr Feng Keng, while also extending to display the prosperity of the Shantou newspaper industry in the early twentieth century.
