There used to be no dedicated ferry terminal between Xiamen and Gulangyu. People relied entirely on sampans and rowing boats for transportation.
In 1937, social elites proposed to build the Xiamen-Gulangyu ferry terminal, and construction began on June 9 of that year. On the Xiamen side, it was built at the Daomei Roadhead of Zhongshan Road. On the Gulangyu side, it was built on the site of the former ‘Piglet Wharf’ where Chinese laborers used to be exported.

In 1976, the government invested in renovating the terminal. Its exterior was designed to resemble an open grand piano, which is a symbol of the Piano Island.

Now it serves as the dedicated terminal for the citizen special line route.

Opening hours: Open 24/7 throughout the year.
