The history of Shapowei’s shelter dock can be traced back to before the Ming Dynasty. In the early days, Xiamen Port was a curved bay. This part of the bay is crescent-shaped, and the golden sandy beaches are connected in a line, so it has the beautiful name of “Jade Sand Slope”. Historically, it was divided into two sections, “Shapotou” and “Shapowei”. The dividing line is a stream that converges from Bishan Rock. The estuary of the stream is at the location of the entrance of today’s Shapowei shelter dock.
