The millennium-old mulberry tree in Quanzhou Kaiyuan Temple is a legendary scenic spot within the temple.
This ancient mulberry tree is located on the west side of the Daxiong Baodian (Great Hero Hall) and in front of the Ganlu Precept Platform. With an age of over 1,300 years, it is one of the treasures that safeguard Kaiyuan Temple.


According to legend, this ancient mulberry tree was once struck by lightning. Miraculously, after being split into three trees, it still survived, forming the spectacular scene of three trees sharing the same root that we see today.


The ancient mulberry tree is lush and full of vitality. It has witnessed the rise and fall of Kaiyuan Temple and also carries the profound historical and cultural heritage of Quanzhou.
