The Noon Gun on Swallowtail Hill is located on the gentle slope of the Swallowtail Ridge and was established by Xiamen Customs. There were originally four military artillery emplacements remaining on Swallowtail Hill, presumably used to control the waterway. In the late 19th century, the Harbour Affairs Management Department of Xiamen Customs, the “Office of the Harbour Master”, installed a “fog gun” at the top of the slope of “Swallowtail Hill”. In the event that the maritime lighthouses and navigation aids malfunctioned in foggy weather, it played a role in guiding ships to sail normally.
