Upon entering the Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone in Sanya, Hainan, the first sight that greets visitors is the grand entrance gate, which is reminiscent of the architectural style from the Northern and Southern Dynasties period in Chinese history. The gate’s lintel bears the prominent characters ‘Bu Er’, hence it is known as ‘The Non-Dual Gateway’. This name reflects a fundamental concept in Buddhist philosophy, which can be seen in the introduction to the Non-Dual Gateway (refer to the Non-Dual Gateway introduction photo). ‘Bu Er’, also known as ‘Wu Er’ or ‘Li Liang Duan’, signifies the absence of duality or extremes. The gate is open all year round from 08:00 to 17:00, with specific operating conditions subject to the day’s opening status.
