The Opium War Museum, also known as the Humen Lin Zexu Memorial Hall, is an important demonstration base for exhibition halls of cultural relics and historical materials related to the Opium War in China. It is built in Humen Town, Dongguan, with reference to the historical background of ‘Humen’s destruction of opium’. In June 1839, the national hero Lin Zexu destroyed millions of kilograms of opium confiscated from British and American ships in public here, thus creating the shocking ‘Humen’s destruction of opium’ event.

The highlight of the museum is the exhibition named ‘The Story of Humen’, which reproduces the former life and street scenes with wax figures. Using real objects, photos, models, films, etc., the Opium War is described clearly and not boringly. The shocking picture may be the statue that breaks the opium pipe in half, full of a sense of power. At the Opium War Museum, visitors can not only pay their respects to Lin Zexu’s generosity and righteousness under the oppression of foreign powers, but also fully understand the beginning and end and historical significance of the Opium War from detailed historical materials.

After being opened to the public for free, the venue has become one of the popular red revolutionary museums in Dongguan. In addition to the main museum, the scope of the Opium War Museum also includes Weiyuan Fort, the Naval Battle Museum and Shajiao Fort.
