The Northern Campus project of the Palace Museum is a vital component of the ‘Safe Forbidden City’ initiative. Situated around the original Xiyu River base of the Palace Museum, the Northern Campus is planned to cover an area of 62.01 hectares. It serves as a center for cultural relics protection and restoration, a display center for restoration, an exhibition hall for artifacts, a royal garden center, and a showcase space for intangible cultural heritage.
On November 9, 2013, with the launch of the royal garden landscape project and the inauguration of the imperial ancient architecture craftsmanship inheritance class, the Northern Campus made its debut to the public. On October 10, 2018, coinciding with the 93rd anniversary of the founding of the Palace Museum, the Northern Campus project was officially launched. The construction of the Cultural Relics Hospital was completed in 2020, and it is expected to open fully in June 2022, with the number of exhibits potentially surpassing those of the main Palace Museum. The opening hours and specific business status are subject to the daily opening conditions. The Northern Campus of the Palace Museum
