The performance of ‘Return to Three Gorges’ is located in the waters of Nanmentuo on the right side of the wind and rain corridor bridge in the Baidicheng-Qutang Gorge scenic area. Zhang Yimou serves as the chief director. The performance began on December 15, 2018 and has become a’replacement work and masterpiece’ of large-scale real-life performing arts of poetry culture. It has won the ‘Five One Project’ Award of the 15th Spiritual Civilization Construction of Chongqing City.
It has been listed as a’research and creation base’ by 108 colleges and universities inside and outside the city including China Du Fu Research Institute, Southwest Jiaotong University, and Chongqing University. It has been rated as one of the top 40 new cultural and tourism landmarks in the city. ‘Return to Three Gorges’ takes the natural landscapes and historical humanities of Baidicheng, Qutang Gorge, and Kuimen as the background, and takes Fengjie’s poetry culture, Three Kingdoms culture, and river gorge culture as the main line and foundation. The performance content selects ten poems and ten chapters, integrates the original ecological trackers’ chant of the Yangtze River Three Gorges, and integrates poetry recitation, song and dance performances, and light and shadow displays. It uses poems to describe the scenery, uses poems to soothe the emotions, and takes poems as the soul. It combines the ancient and the modern. It adopts the world’s first water floating platform viewing and performing mode to reproduce the artistic conception and magnificent wonders of poetry creation in those years. It carefully creates an enchanting poetic world, a highland of poetry, and a holy land of poets. Let ‘poetry’ last for thousands of years and ‘virtue’ moisten thousands of families.
