San Shan King Gods originate from the Chaoshan region in Guangdong, with their roots in the Lin Tian Ancestral Temple, located in Hepu Town, JieXi County, Guangdong, which was established during the Sui Dynasty. This temple is over 1400 years old and is the ancestral temple for the San Shan King Gods.
The San Shan King Gods were originally three high mountains within JieYang County, known as Jin Mountain, Ming Mountain, and Du Mountain. The ancients, with their reverence for nature and all things, personified these mountains and created wondrous and beautiful legends around them. For instance, the San Shan King Gods during the Southern and Northern Dynasties were said to have assisted Emperor Wen of Sui in completing his imperial endeavors and were ennobled as the three great generals before the founding of the nation.
