The Three Gorges Cultural Relics Park is located in Mopanzhai, the new county town of Yunyang, Chongqing. It is a demonstration project for cultural relics protection in the Three Gorges Reservoir area. The replication and relocation work started in November 2001. According to the principle of relocation to other places and reconstruction in original form, eleven cultural relics including Wenchang Palace, Dizhu Palace, Dongyue Temple, Shaanxi Arrow Tower, Weixin School, the south city gate of Yunyang, Xiahuang’s Chastity Archway, Changtan Stone Tablet Pavilion, Liugang Stone Inscription, Niwei Rock Rock Painting, and Longji Stone Inscription in the submerged area of the Three Gorges Project in Yunyang were relocated to the park.

At the same time, more than 1,000 pieces of underground cultural relics unearthed through archaeological excavation at all levels are also preserved in the park. These cultural relics show the development context of the civilization of the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River. The eleven cultural relics scenic spots in the Three Gorges Cultural Relics Park were all located below the water level of 175 meters before reconstruction.

Due to their important historical value, they were uniformly planned and determined by the Three Gorges Project Construction Committee and the State Administration of Cultural Heritage as protection projects for relocation and replication. The relocation project started in December 2000 and all relocation projects were completed by the end of 2008. In 2009, the greening project and special exhibition layout projects were gradually improved.

On October 1, 2009, it was officially opened to the public.
