Tiāngōng Grand Buddha
Standing at an impressive height of 20.8 meters, with ears large enough for a person to pass through, the Tiāngōng Grand Buddha is one of the four great stone Buddhas in Zhejiang.
The Buddha statue features a broad face and forehead, embodying a solemn and benevolent demeanor. Its face is plump and round, and its posture is serene and dignified, making it a treasure of ancient Jiangnan stone carving art.
Unlike many other semi-round and relief stone Buddhas in China, this Buddha is a full-round sculpture, with the back of the Buddha not connected to the niche, which adds to its exceptional cultural value.
Worship Platform and Surroundings
The platform for worship in front of the Buddha measures 23 meters in length, 21 meters in width, and 1.2 meters in height, and is inscribed with characters and the ‘Six-Word Mantra’. Surrounding the stone railing, there are 48 Buddha statues carved.
Stone Quarry Pool
The pool around the stone Buddha is a remnant of ancient stone quarrying, which had been submerged for hundreds of years.
Opening Hours
The site is open all year round and accessible 24 hours a day, with specific business hours subject to the daily opening conditions.
