### Tianshi Mansion: A Legacy of Taoism
**Location and Legacy:**
The Tianshi Mansion, nestled in Shangqing Town, serves as the residence for the successive generations of Zhang Tianshi. Initially constructed at the base of Longhu Mountain, it was later moved to its current location in Shangqing. The title of Zhang Tianshi has been passed down through 63 generations, marking it as the longest lineage of surname inheritance and teaching recognized by emperors in China. A popular saying goes, “In the north, there is Confucius; in the south, there is Zhang Tianshi.”
**Zhang Tianshi and Zhang Daoling:**
Zhang Tianshi, originally named Zhang Daoling, is believed to be the eighth-generation grandson of Zhang Liang. Described as a towering figure at nine feet and three inches, with thick eyebrows and a large face, he exuded majesty. Born in Tianmu Mountain during the Guangwu period of the Han Dynasty, his mother dreamt of Kuixing before his birth. Zhang Daoling displayed exceptional intelligence from a young age, mastering Laozi’s Tao Te Ching by the age of seven. He was well-versed in astronomy, geography, Hetu, and Luoshu.
**Cultivation and Enlightenment:**
As an adult, Zhang Daoling diligently practiced cultivation in the mountains and swiftly attained enlightenment. He is known for refining elixirs at Longhu Mountain, which he completed after three years. Guided by divine beings, he further cultivated advanced Taoist arts, gaining the ability to expel demons and cure diseases. Thousands flocked to him as their teacher, leading him to organize them into a Taoist organization.
**Ascension and Taoist Inheritance:**
On the ninth day of the ninth month in the first year of Yongshou of Emperor Huan of the Eastern Han Dynasty, Zhang Daoling was conferred as the True Man of the Orthodox One by immortals and ascended to immortality. The Taoism he founded continues to this day, earning the nickname “Five Pecks of Rice Religion” due to his stipulation that new adherents pay five pecks of rice. Subsequent generations honor him as Zhang Tianshi, with the title being permitted by successive emperors to be inherited hereditarily. The current Zhang Tianshi is the 63rd-generation descendant of Zhang Daoling.
**Tianshi Mansion: A Glimpse of History and Beauty:**
Spanning an area of 50,000 square meters with over 500 rooms, the Tianshi Mansion is a splendid architectural complex. Its pavilions, halls, and palaces are resplendent, with countless winding paths and corridors. Ancient trees tower within the mansion, creating a tranquil environment with breathtaking scenery. The mansion retains the traditional specifications of a Chinese mansion while incorporating elements of feudal yamen. Its layout reflects the distinct style of the Orthodox One sect of Taoism.
**Cultural Celebrations:**
Every early October, the Longhu Mountain Taoist Culture Festival is held at the Tianshi Mansion, where tourists can witness Taoist ritual performances.

The Tianshi Mansion is open from 08:00 to 17:00 all year round.
