Tianzhuang Ancient Village is one of the important historical and cultural heritages in Zhangjiagang City. It features a complete group of Ming and Qing Dynasty buildings and historical alleys. The core protected area covers an area of 4.62 hectares. Also known as Tianzhuang or Tian Village, it was established by the Qian family of Xipu during the Ming Dynasty for collecting land rent. During the Qianlong and Jiaqing periods of the Qing Dynasty, it reached its peak. A total of 65 historical celebrities emerged in Tianzhuang and its surrounding areas, including 4 top scholars, 1 second-ranking scholar, and 31 Jinshi scholars. These literati have left a rich cultural heritage for Fenghuang Town. The existing ancient street in Tianzhuang, including the Second Scholar’s Mansion, Yang’s Filiality Archway, Yang’s Southern Residence, and Jiang’s Residence, are precious ancient buildings passed down by these historical celebrities.

Walking into the old street of Tianzhuang, one can see the distinctive features of a water town ancient town, such as riverbanks, arched bridges, and water alleys, as well as the narrow stone-paved streets. The ancient Anjing River flows through the quiet alleys, retaining many Ming and Qing Dynasty buildings. The crisscrossing deep alleys and streets are like the roots of an old locust tree, connecting ancient and modern residences. The Yang’s Filiality Archway, with a history of over a hundred years, stands like an old man with a weathered face, telling the extraordinary history of the small town to the younger generation.Vines climb over the desolate ancient gardens, grasses dot the disordered tiles of the ancient residences, and the smooth and round ancient wells still provide clear and sweet spring water, giving people a sense of historical gravity. The opening hours are from 08:30 to 16:30 all year round.
