Tin Shui Wai, famously known for the film ‘The Way We Are’ by Ann Hui, originally was a walled village in Yuen Long, surrounded by vast fishponds (gei wai). In 1992, the first public housing estate, Tin Yiu Estate, was completed, followed by Tin Shui Estate in 1993. Once, the area around Lok Lake and Tin Yiu Estate was the central district of Tin Shui Wai. With the opening of Silvermine Bay Plaza and Silvermine Bay Hotel in 1999, the Tin Shui Wai Park and Silvermine Bay Plaza area has become the new town center. In the same year, the Tai Lam Tunnel was officially opened, allowing residents of Tin Shui Wai to travel to the city without relying on the Tuen Mun Road. The southern development of Tin Shui Wai is largely complete, and it has now become a very prosperous community. Open all year round, 24/7, with specific business hours subject to daily opening conditions.
