Tingzhou Ancient City is located in Tingzhou Town, in the western mountainous area of Fujian Province, and has always been the stronghold of the Hakka people. Nestled against the mountains and beside the waters, the city retains many Hakka residential buildings from the Song and Ming dynasties. Strolling through the alleys or visiting traditional shops, one can easily witness the authentic local life scenes.
Climbing the ancient city wall to reminisce about the long river of history, exploring historical sites within the city for traces of the past, or following the scent to search for delicious street snacks are all ways to enjoy one’s leisure time. Although Tingzhou Ancient City is not large, it offers visits to renowned historical sites such as Tingzhou Imperial Examination Hall, Tingzhou Confucius Temple, Tingzhou Prefecture City God, Tianhou Palace, and Nanchan Temple, as well as attractions like Shangguan Zhou’s former residence, Ziyun Ancestral Hall, and Yunxiang Pavilion. The Baozhu Gate in the southern part of the city is an excellent spot to view the city’s panorama, and climbing the ancient city wall for a higher perspective is also a good choice. As early as the Tang Dynasty, the city walls of Changting were built, and these ancient city walls are a symbol of Tingzhou Ancient City. Today, most of the walls are modern reconstructions. From the walls, one can observe the life in the ancient city, starting from the Huiji Gate in the south and walking north along the Ting River to Chaotian Gate, passing several city towers and beacon towers. The section of the wall near Shuidong Bridge is an old historical relic. In addition to numerous historical sites, Tingzhou Ancient City also houses many memorial halls and former residences of historical celebrities. The city is open to visitors all year round, with full-day access.Tingzhou Ancient City
