The Tongnan Rapeseed Flower Festival is held in Chongkan Town, Tongnan County, Chongqing. Chongkan Town is a rapeseed production base in the county, where tens of thousands of acres of rapeseed flowers with nearly a thousand varieties bloom in the fields every March. The golden yellow stretches as far as the eye can see. The Qiongjiang River flows through the sea of flowers, and visitors can enjoy the spring breeze while cruising on a boat; climbing Chen Tuan Mountain, they can also admire the ‘Tai Chi’ pattern formed with rapeseed as the main backdrop and wheat as the accompanying scenery.

Chongkan Town in Tongnan County is the hometown of Chen Tuan, a Daoist from the Five Dynasties and early Song Dynasty. This year’s rapeseed flower festival highlights the essence of Chen Tuan’s culture in governing the country and the way of health preservation. At the same time, Tongnan is the green vegetable capital of the west, with 30,000 acres of rapeseed base showing a ‘colorful sea of flowers, flowing golden earth’, presenting a golden Tongnan. The Tongnan Chen Tuan Hometown Rapeseed Flower Scenic Area, located in Chongkan Town, is an important rapeseed planting base in Chongqing with a history of more than 500 years. Since 2008, Tongnan has utilized the 30,000 acres of concentrated rapeseed flower sea in Chongkan Town to hold four consecutive Rapeseed Flower Festivals, attracting hundreds of thousands to millions of tourists each year, earning titles such as ‘One of the Most Beautiful Rapeseed Flower Seas in China’ and ‘Top Ten Spring Tourism Destinations in Chongqing’. The entire area is open all year round from 09:00 to 18:00, with preferential policies for the elderly: those aged 65 and above (inclusive) with valid identification are free; children: those aged 6 and under (inclusive) and under 1.2 meters (inclusive) are free (accompanied by adults), and those between 1.2 meters (inclusive) and 1.4 meters (exclusive) are offered discounted tickets. Special groups: people with disabilities, active-duty military personnel, retired military officers, and military academy students can exchange their valid identification for free tickets (elderly and disabled people need to be accompanied by adults), and are free.
