Tongnan Great Buddha Temple

Tongnan Great Buddha Temple is located 1.5 kilometers northwest of Tongnan County town, at the foot of Dingming Mountain. Presently, it preserves four ancient wooden structures: the Great Buddha Pavilion, the Guanyin Hall, the Jade Emperor Hall, and the Jian Pavilion. The Great Buddha Pavilion, built against the mountain and beside the water, features a spectacular seven-eave mountain-style architecture.

Inside the pavilion, the cliff-carved sitting statue of Sakyamuni Buddha stands at 18.43 meters tall, exuding a solemn aura. Commonly referred to as the ‘Eight Zhang Golden Immortal,’ this Buddha is the focal point around which, on the cliff walls extending east and west for about a mile, there are 83 inscriptions, poems, steles, and statues left by scholars and poets from various dynasties. The temple is open from 08:30 to 17:30, every day from January 1st to December 31st.
