The Wanfo Golden Pagoda Underground Palace is modeled after Thai palace architecture. The pagoda enshrines 9,999 golden Buddha statues both inside and outside. Together with the architectural design itself, it resembles a Buddha statue, hence the name ‘Wanfo Golden Pagoda Underground Palace’.
The interior of the underground palace is paved with gold bricks, exuding a dazzling and magnificent splendor. It features a 3.5-meter-long ivory micro-carving that depicts ‘Along the River During the Qingming Festival’, five hundred arhat statues, and 80,000 characters of scriptures.
In the square of the Wanfo Golden Pagoda Underground Palace, there is a 2-meter-high, 6-meter-long, 16-ton jade reclining Buddha statue, which is the largest in the country and is carved from a single piece of Burmese jade.
The Buddha statue is adorned with precious stones, pearls, and agate, and is also known as the ‘Image of Nirvana’. It is open to the public from 07:30 to 17:00 all year round.
