Wangshui Spring is located in the west courtyard of Wanzhu Garden. According to legend, this spring is connected to another famous spring in Wanzhu Garden – Dengzhou Spring. Looking towards Dengzhou together, hence the name ‘Wangshui Spring’. Yan Bi’s poem goes: ‘The scenery in Wanzhu Garden is secluded and interesting. The two springs are connected and looking towards Dengzhou. Hundred-foot-tall parasol trees are habitats for red phoenixes.
A thousand piles of snow-like waves play with seagulls.’ In the Qing Dynasty, the famous person Wang Ping once lived beside the spring. Taking the ranking of Wangshui Spring in the ‘Famous Springs Stele’ as the name, he named his study ‘Twenty-four Springs Thatched Cottage’ and composed poems to chant: ‘My home is by Wangshui Spring. In the past, there were tens of thousands of bamboo groves in Pingquan. Under the tall trees on the nine broken earthen walls, there is a half-room thatched cottage among the cauliflower. The spring pool is 20 meters long from east to west, 4.8 meters wide, and 2.2 meters deep. There is a stone bridge in the middle. A pavilion is built south of the bridge. Tourists can watch fish and enjoy the scenery at the pavilion and bridge. There is a gate tower north of the pool that is connected to the courtyard. Open all year round and open all day.
