Wanping City is located east of Lugou Bridge. This city was completed in 1640, the thirteenth year of Chongzhen in the Ming Dynasty. Its original name was Gongbei City. Wanping was originally one of the suburban counties under the jurisdiction of Shuntian Prefecture in the Ming Dynasty. In the Qing Dynasty, it was renamed Gongji City. On December 1, 1928, the Wanping County government was relocated to the original Gongji City within Lugou Bridge, and since then it has been renamed Wanping City.
Now it has been changed to Lugouqiao Town. Wanping City is a bridgehead. The city wall architecture is similar to that of Beijing. There are two city gates. On the outside of the city wall all around are crenels, observation holes, and shooting holes below. Each crenel has a cover plate. Wanping was originally one of the suburban counties under the jurisdiction of Shuntian Prefecture in the Ming Dynasty. In the Qing Dynasty, it was renamed Gongji City. Just because Wanping was built for military purposes back then, although the city is small in size, its shape and structure were different from ordinary county towns when it was first built. Inside the city, there are no facilities such as main streets, alleys, markets, bell towers, and drum towers in general county towns. The whole city has only two gates in the east and west, and both have barbicans and city towers. The entire city wall is relatively thick and solid, mainly conducive to defending the capital. Opening hours: Open all day throughout the year.Must Read
