Weihai Road

Weihai Road is an east-west road in the center of Shanghai. It starts from under the viaduct of Middle Yan’an Road in the west and borders Wusheng Road in the east. It is about 1800 meters in length. Touring along Weihai Road, there are numerous lanes on both sides of the road. Most of the houses have the style and characteristics of early Shanghai Shikumen. From time to time, strips of ‘old lanes in Shanghai’ are sandwiched between patches of new buildings, making people’s thoughts jump around and giving rise to continuous reveries.

The area around Weihai Road and North Maoming Road is home to some of the few exquisite lanes remaining in Shanghai, such as Jing’an Villa. On the side facing Nanjing Road, the main lane has become quite wide. The rows of houses in the branch lanes are neat and tall, with carved door lintels. Some windows have colored glass patterns. When it rains, the old houses are filled with a nostalgic atmosphere in the humid air.

They stand quietly deep in the lanes, unassuming yet distinctive, easily drawing people into those old tales of Shanghai and making it hard for people to let go. In the southeast direction at the intersection of North Maoming Road and Weihai Road, among the numerous high-rise buildings, there is still an old-fashioned Shikumen building. The opening hours are subject to the opening status on that day.
