Weiyuan Tower, referred to by the locals of Quanzhou as the ‘Nanbei Tiananmen’, is a testament to its grandeur. Historically known as ‘Qiao Tower’ or ‘North Drum Tower’, it was initially constructed by the Five Dynasties King Wang Shenzhi as a place to announce the time. As a city symbol of Quanzhou, the tower is frequently mentioned in the travelogues of foreign travelers who have visited the city.
The Weiyuan Tower is open to the public 24/7 throughout the year, from 00:00 to 23:59.
