Built in the second year of Xuantong, ‘Wenyuan Xiaozhu’ is one of the two houses built side by side by two brothers. The two ‘Tongfeng Di’ indicate that the owners of the houses were civil officials. One is currently inhabited, and the other has its door tightly locked. Between the two houses is an alley. When the main doors are closed, there are side doors between them for communication. The current owner of Wenyuan Xiaozhu is an eighty-year-old man surnamed Chen.
This house was built by his great-grandfather. The two-courtyard house is limited by its floor area. On the south side of the main entrance is a single fire lane. At the end of the fire lane is a beautiful two-story Western-Chinese style flower building that forms an independent courtyard. The essence of the entire Wenyuan Xiaozhu is here. The upstairs is connected to the second floor of the main house. A large number of wood carvings and color paintings add luster to the old house.Opening hours: Open all year round from 8:00 to 17:00.
