Wenfeng Tower is located in the northwest corner of the ancient city of Anyang, standing at a height of 38.65 meters with a circumference of 40 meters. Originally named Tianning Temple Tower because it was built within the Tianning Temple, it is also known as Wenfeng Tower due to its location in the northeast of the old Zhangde Prefecture Confucian Temple, symbolizing the local ‘cultural style’.
Built in the second year of the Guangshun era of the Later Zhou Dynasty during the Five Dynasties period, Wenfeng Tower has a history of over a thousand years. Despite enduring the trials of war, it still stands tall and majestic to this day. The architecture of Wenfeng Tower is distinctive, featuring a characteristic of being wider at the top than at the bottom. Each story is larger than the one below, gradually expanding in an umbrella-like form, which is rare both domestically and internationally. The tower, 38 meters high, is octagonal and consists of five levels. It is entirely constructed of bricks, with patterns carved on the dark red bricks, primarily depicting Buddhist stories. At the top of the tower, there is a small pagoda-shaped finial resembling the White Pagoda in Beihai, Beijing. Climbing the tower offers a panoramic view of the ancient city’s surrounding mountains and waters. It is open to visitors from 08:30 to 18:00 all year round, with an extended opening time from 6:00 to 18:00.Wenfeng Tower
