Wenyu River is located in the northeastern part of Beijing. It stretches from the Shahe Reservoir to the BeiGuan sluice gate in Tongxian, serving as the upper reaches of the Grand Canal. Originating from the hills of the Jundu Mountain in Changping District, Beijing, the upper reaches of the Wenyu River are formed by the confluence of three tributaries: Dongsha River, Beisha River, and Nansha River.

With a total length of 47.5 kilometers, the river is further fed by Lin Gou River, Qing River, Longdao River, Ba River, and Xiaozhong River. The watershed area covers 4,423 square kilometers. Between 1970 and 1972, the river underwent two rounds of comprehensive management, with embankments built along its course and four sluice gates constructed. The flood prevention standard above the Lin Gou River mouth is designed for a 50-year flood event, with a peak flood discharge of 400 cubic meters per second; below the Lin Gou River mouth, it is designed for a 20-year flood event, with a 50-year flood event check, and a peak flood discharge of 1,562 cubic meters per second.
