Wenzhou Library is a national first-class prefecture-level and city-level library. It was born on May 9, 1919, amid the turmoil of the May 4th Movement. Its predecessor was the old public library of Wenzhou. The current building of Wenzhou Library is located on Shifu Road and was opened to the public in November 2005. It has a construction area of 32,000 square meters and a collection of 3 million volumes.


There are 2,000 reading seats and nearly 2,000 network nodes. It is connected with the science and technology museum, museum, and grand theater and surrounds the city administrative center building. It is one of the landmark buildings in Wenzhou. Wenzhou Library receives an average of 5,000 readers per day. It provides services such as borrowing, information reference, organizing reader activities, collecting and sorting out local documents of Wenzhou, and strengthening the construction of digital resources and branch libraries.


It is a large modern public library integrating functions such as culture, education, scientific research, and leisure.


Opening hours: Open from Monday to Thursday and Saturday to Sunday from 08:30 to 20:30 throughout the year; Open on Friday from 13:30 to 20:30 throughout the year; Open from 08:30 to 20:30 during the Mid-Autumn Festival. The opening hours of each area during the Mid-Autumn Festival are as follows: Reader service areas on the first to fifth floors: 8:30 – 20:30; Literature reading room on the fourth floor and new media reading area on the sixth floor: 8:30 – 17:00; Ancient book literature reading room on the seventh floor: 8:30 – 11:30; 13:30 – 17:00 (closed on September 16).
